Research

Structural bioinformatics

more about protein structure
We are developing radically new protein and RNA 3D structure prediction methods based on Graphical Models and Bayesian Networks, Directional Statistics and Markov Chain onte Carlo methods.

Non-coding RNA

more about wonderful world of ncRNAs
Many RNAs play a functional role in the cell. We work on secondary structure prediction and multiple alignment of ncRNAs.

microRNA

Read more about our miRNA research
MicroRNAs are small RNA molecules with important roles in regulation of gene expression. We analyse the biology of microRNAs using computational methods and develop tools useful by experimental biologists.

Promoter analysis

Read more about our promoter analysis research
We develop statistical and bioinformatics methods to analyse the regulation of transcription of eukaryotic genes. This includes modelling of epigenetics, transcription factor binding sites, core promoters and transcription start sites

Education

Master's in Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is an exciting interdisciplinary field. BINF is running a master's program in bioinformatics. Every year 15 selected students start.

Introduction to bioinformatics

A course for undergraduates in biology and biochemistry taught every year. Focused on the use of bioinformatics tools.

Structural Bioinformatics

This course deals with the computational side of 3D biomolecular structure. The focus is mainly on protein structure prediction and analysis, but RNA structure will be discussed briefly as well.
